Bobby Ray has been singing and writing music for over 40 years. He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio and spent much of his time singing/playing in church. He's been a part of several bands over the years, his most notable being Penitent Heart in the 90's.

Bobby moved down to Nashville, TN in July 2021 to pursue his music dream.

Bobby Ray's biggest influence was Johnny Cash. Folsom Prison Blues was the song that inspired him to learn to play guitar. At four years old he would play that song for dimes. His other influences include Simon & Garfunkle, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor and REO Speedwagon.

Bobby has a unique sound and a way with words that the listener is taken into the story he is telling.

Please share a story that includes a happy memory as an artist and has hugely impacted your artistry.

When I first heard Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues when I was five years old, on my dad's old record player. That made me want to play guitar. I was standing on the steps pretending with my toy guitar, listening to Elvis records. I knew then that's what I wanted to do.

I have another memory , anytime that I play in front of a crowd and someone wants to dance to my music, that's what makes it all worthwhile.

How do you choose to lead a Happy Healthy life as an artist?

I don't drink alcohol, although I write about it. I don't smoke. I try to get plenty of rest. I enjoy what I do, I enjoy entertaining. Who did you learn from to instill those values?

My values and morals came from growing up in church, my parents, the people that I surround myself with. I have a strong faith in Jesus Christ. Was it hard work to make sure that you focused on your well-being and not only your art?

Of course, it's always a struggle when my passion is to entertain. I enjoy making people happy but I sometimes have to stop , take a break and say no to gigs or open mics, so that I can focus on myself and time with my wife. Was there a turning point in how you decided to put yourself first?

I went through a bad divorce a few years ago, and that forced me to focus on what I wanted and what I needed. I started living for myself and doing what I love instead of living for someone else. How do you like to promote a healthy lifestyle?

When I'm performing or hanging out with other musician friends, like I said, I don't drink or smoke. I guess, by example of the way I live my life. In what ways are you connecting with fans to check in on each other?

I try to keep up on all my social media platforms with what fans, friends, family are discussing or posting. Who checks in on YOU when you need it most?

My wife, she's the most important part of my musical journey. She knows my moods, she knows what I need before I do. She reminds me to take a break , she reminds me to eat right, drink water(although I prefer pepsi). She's the song I hear everyday. Changing habits can be hard. Which was the habit that you had to change and how has it changed your life now?

Pepsi is my vice, I only drank that for the longest time. I've cut way back since my wife reminds me all the time to drink more water. That's still hard, because I'd rather reach for the Pepsi, but I've cut back and it has made my body feel a lot better. Is there a song, book, movie, show, or anything that always gives you the motivation you need?

I get motivated by other people's encouragement to continue this journey. Johnny Cash's song "Folsom Prison Blues" What is the mantra of 2022?!

The show must go on... Give all the inside scoop on your latest project! I just released my first single on the new album I'm working on. The single is called "Gas Station Roses" and it's available on all the streaming services. I'm recording the second song now titled "Axes and Alcohol" which was inspired by the Bad Axe Throwing bar here in Nashville. I play there once or twice a month and host a songwriter round every other week there. So I'll be recording for the next few months to get the new album out by the end of the summer. I'm really excited about the selection of original songs and I have some cool musicians recording on it with me. We want to thank you for joining us here and are so excited about what we see from you next! Leave us with your socials!!
