Please share a story that includes a happy memory as an artist and has made a huge impact on your artistry.
I was performing for an event that was more for adults and after I performed my song, “Systematic” a woman came up to me and said, “You get it. You really get it!” That is when I realized that I truly am influencing people with my art.
How do you choose to lead a Happy Healthy life as an artist?
This is multi-layered for me. Serving through my music is one way. I also have to work on my body and eating habits constantly. I work on my mental health and spirituality daily to maintain balance and to make sure I stay grounded. Self-Love is the most important thing I work on most of all. This is all the balancing I need. When you truly love your spirit and who you are, you can conquer anything. This is the main message behind what I do.
Who did you learn from to instill those values?
I have had a lot of pain to work through in my life and through each lesson, I would find what I needed to learn though my perception was off. Our perceptions are deeply rooted into our programming whether good or bad. At the time I would learn lessons, I didn’t know what I didn’t know so I did not have the wisdom to perceive them any differently than face value. Being older now, I can recognize what is being shown to me. I do have a team of friends who walk this path with me where we share ideals and synchronicities that happen in our lives. I learned these values through what I saw in other people. I learned through their own downfalls and I wanted to avoid them.
Was it hard work to make sure that you focused on your well being and not only your art?
Yes it continues to be very hard because I am a work-a-holic. I will wake up in the wee hours if I can’t sleep and work if I am allowed to. Shameful I know. I have my team who reminds me to rest, take breaks and even my body will stop allowing flow if I don’t flow with the rhythm in which it is trying to work. It is not hard, however, to remember to put love first in what I do. That is really the basis of my wellbeing and something I continue to work on constantly. And yes, I recognize that taking rest is a form of loving your self and self-care so I do know better.
Was there a turning point of how you decided to put yourself first?
Yes. Actually, the lack of movement for me in the music industry gave me a lot of clarity in what I need to do for myself. Usually, when things don’t move to my liking, I make it - in my mind anyway, but then I realized there was something missing. See, we are influenced by our thoughts and actions, those of others and those of the universe itself. We only have control over ourselves. We have so many rules in which we are ruled by and half of which we don’t know exist. I had to think, if there is something stopping me, then it is not time and there is a reason. Humans are only catalysts and pawns for the changes that need to happen. The universe works through us, that is why we are vessels. It was then I realized I have to work with everything to gain for myself and for everyone. And I have been moving in this vein ever since.
How do you like to promote a healthy lifestyle?
I teach about love. I put into practice what is in theory. I then take what I have learned and teach others. I try to put it in my artform when I perform on stage and when I make my music. I used to make posts of me working out and being positive on my change. I will continue to do some of that.
In what ways are you connecting with fans to check in on each other?
I have some posts about maintaining their wellbeing, but not many. So you have given me an idea here. Thanks to BSquared I have a new plan on how to do my social media and reach my base, and I will be adding this because wellness is so important and if someone can get value out of what I do for myself, then hey..that is a win.
Who checks in on YOU when you need it most?
My team consists of my friends and my children check on me the most. With children when mom is okay, everyone is okay. My team has been there from the beginning. There isn’t a day we don’t check on each other.
Changing habits can be hard. Which was the habit that you had to change and how it's changed your life now?
I had to learn to let go and flow. When we go through pain, we hold on to the memory thinking it will change. It won’t. We only need the lesson, not the pain. So I had to learn to let go of what does not serve me and flow. Things around me do not move at my time. I move fast. Life doesn’t. Divine timing doesn’t. So I had to learn to flow with all my surroundings to make progress. I also had to learn to trust in the Divine timing. It is all about a relationship with the energies around you and being able to positively affect it for yourself and for everyone.
Is there a song, book, movie, show or anything that always gives you the motivation you need?
Song: I Believe - Yolanda Adams, Always by Stevie Wonder, Book: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#&*^!, Movie: Neverending Story. These always give me inspiration to keep going.
What is the mantra of 2022?!
My mantra of 2022 is “There is nothing I can’t achieve loving who I truly am.”
Give all the inside scoop of your latest project!
My latest project is a mini album that introduces me to the world. It introduces my style and my aesthetic. I am almost done. I also have a song that crosses a little bit into country for Female Veterans here and past. I wanted to honor them and work on finishing that song so I can make sure this world knows the contributions that women have brought to the table. We have people making decisions for women like we are children. This is 2022. We are supposed to have flying cars by now, and you are going to regress us back how many years? For what purpose? Not on my watch!
