Eva Westphal is a singer-songwriter based in New York City. At 13, Eva began writing her own songs, combining her love for writing with her love for music. Though she is classically trained, her transition to pop music has led to performances at renowned venues like PIANOS, The Delancey, The Bitter End, and The Bowery Electric.

Eva's musical inspirations span from Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks to Brandi Carlile and "Folklore"-era Taylor Swift. Distinguished musicians have commented on her unique voice, with Alicia Keys pointing out Eva's "pure tone" and Top 40 Radio (Mix 104.1) calling her "one to watch." EARMILK writes, “Framed by her classical training, Westphal’s pop sound is distinctly infused with a polished feel that sets her apart from many other 21-year-old talents.”

Passionate about mental health and LGBTQ+ issues, Eva hopes that her music will help you love your authentic self.

Please share a story that includes a happy memory as an artist and has hugely impacted your artistry.

Most recently, my release show in New York City was a big moment for me as an artist. The audience was filled with some of my closest friends, and people who listen to my music, who I got to meet in person (finally)! I just looked around and thought, “wow, if my 16 year old self could see me now, she’d cry of joy.” I am finally happy and healthy, and I think realizing that onstage was a “pinch me” moment.

How do you choose to lead a Happy Healthy life as an artist? I focus a lot on my recovery and sobriety these days, which for me, means connecting with friends and family often, going to bed and waking up at reasonable times, and taking care of my body and soul. I love trying new restaurants with friends and just generally taking care of myself. Oh, and drinking lots of water!

Who did you learn from to instill those values?

I learned most of what I know about taking care of myself from the healthcare providers who supported me when I was unable to do so. The whole, “eating three meals a day, checking in with your body, going to sleep at a normal time” was foreign to me for a while. Now I’m happy to report that it’s just my day to day life!

Was it hard work to make sure that you focused on your well-being and not only your art? Absolutely! I worked on my well being for years and years – and it’s thankfully gotten easier as time goes by! Now, it just feels natural to love and take care of myself. But it took a lot of work to get here.

Was there a turning point in how you decided to put yourself first? I had multiple turning points; I quit drinking a bit over 7 months ago because I knew that’s what I needed to do to live my happiest life. Previously, I had points where I chose recovery from my eating disorder, over and over until it stuck.

How do you like to promote a healthy lifestyle? I try to make sure to promote taking care of your mental health through my music. I also love promoting self love and self acceptance. Coming out was a huge part of that for me!

In what ways are you connecting with fans to check in on each other?

“Fans” is a funny word to me, I prefer “listeners,” cause that’s what people are doing at the end of the day: giving me a couple minutes of their day to listen to my music. It’s very humbling. But anyways, I connect with people by always, always checking my DMs and keeping active on my discord!

Who checks in on YOU when you need it most? My best friends, my mom, and my therapist.

Changing habits can be hard. Which was the habit that you had to change and how has it changed your life now? Quitting drinking was a huge one! I love spending my nights sober, going out to dance or to a bar with friends and enjoying my pineapple juice or sparkling water. It’s the biggest gift to be truly present in my life every day.

Is there a song, book, movie, show, or anything that always gives you the motivation you need? “Vienna” by Billy Joel always hits the spot when I need to remind myself that slowing down and accepting an unknown future is part of life – and what makes life so magical!

What is the mantra of 2022?! My future is an adventure.

Give all the inside scoop on your latest project! “Beautiful Little Life” was almost a year in the making – it’s an EP all about self acceptance, queer love, and recovery. The music video for “Beautiful Little Life” really ties it all together! (Video:
