Where are you from and how did you get started?
I grew up in Brandon, Florida! It's a suburb of Tampa.
My dad was a touring musician from the time I was born until I was 6. He got us in guitar and piano lessons really early on and had us perform at his shows!
My family was really supportive of us pursuing music and had us get involved in several different projects as children
I started as a professional musician at age 18 when I moved to Nashville. My sister and I performed as a duo for a few years until we recently launched our own solo projects. We still love to sing together, but we decided to go our separate ways creatively. My solo project is very pop/alt-pop and just feels more like me. How do you manage your self-care as an artist? I tend to put my emotional needs on the back burner and just focus on music all the time, but I've learned I can't always do that. The last year or so has been a really reflective time for me. I've learned a lot about myself by reading about my Enneagram type -- I'm an 8 -- and it gave me some validation and insight into my personality. I know now to make myself slow down sometimes. I pour all of my emotions into my songwriting, and I'm really involved in Ethos Church in Nashville. Prayer and community in my faith is a huge priority for me. What is challenging with wellness and/ or mental health as a musical artist? For me, being vulnerable in my songwriting process can be a challenge. I'm fine when I work by myself, but with co-writes you really have to share your story on a deeply personal level. I tend to keep a pretty small writing circle for this reason. Having supportive people around you that you can trust with your work and with your emotions is so important. Do you have new releases or upcoming shows you would like to share? Yes! I just recently released my first EP, "Changes." I'm also dropping a music video for "Bubblegum" by the end of the month! I have a full band show at The Pond in Franklin, TN on August 25th. If you're in the area - come out!
Tell us about your mission as an artist! My mission right now is just to stay true to myself and make music that is authentic to me and what I've been going through. I pride myself right now in writing songs about me and my own life. When I'm able to be vulnerable and verbalize some of these deeper emotions, I know it can become more relatable and helpful for others. I also am trying to experiment as far as my sound goes. It's really easy for me to write sad, slow ballads, but I want to be able to create happy, upbeat pop music for people to vibe to. Overall, just staying true to myself and not letting too much outside influence change my style too much!
