Melanie Taylor, better known as the soulful voice of MUSZETTE, has a sound all her own that dances between electronic pop and energetic rock. The inspiring anthems of her debut EP “Big Mood” were amplified on networks like HBO, Disney, Netflix, and on shows like Queer Eye, Younger, The Bold Type, Nancy Drew, Pose, Jersey Shore, and more. Female empowerment is at the heartbeat of the MUSZETTE narrative as recognized by a recent promo for The 96 Effect, played during NBC’s Olympic Trials, all about women’s fight for recognition and equality in the Olympics, while her feature on NHL’s ‘Celebrating Gender Equality Month’ brought her motivational bangers to prime time.

LA-based artist MUSZETTE was developed from Melanie’s experience as a seasoned performer, songwriter and vocalist who is revealing her most unapologetic self yet. The moniker draws influence from the Greek goddesses (muses) who presided over song and the arts, adding potency to her uplifting messages of self-confidence. Musically she has been compared to Bishop Briggs with themes resembling that of LIZZO, while her sound is perhaps best described as a feeling rather than a genre. This urban creative’s fiery persona draws from her time spent in NYC and London while her ability to inspire comes from being raised by an independent single mom who encouraged her to chase her wildest dreams. It is this conviction that drives her to make music promoting fearless self-love, reminding her listeners that you are the master of your own destiny.

Please share a story that includes a happy memory as an artist and has made a huge impact on your artistry.

I got the opportunity to perform a few shows in Australia, the only caveat was I couldn't afford to bring my band so I was performing everything to backing tracks with just myself onstage. I had gotten really comfortable with the presence of my other musicians always there with me, and was also doubting I would be "enough" singing alone on an empty stage.

However, the biggest blessing in my artistry came from that necessity. I had no other choice but to connect with the audience in front of me, and use that energy as apart of my stage instead of resort to being in my own world with my band. Luckily, Australians are always a rowdy bunch and were an incredible audience to have that kind of exchange with.

It really taught me the importance of connection and to not be afraid to just be in the moment with people. That's why I love performing in the first place, and going to see live music, so it was huge for me to remember!

How do you choose to lead a Happy Healthy life as an artist?

I do daily meditation and journal as often as possible. Artists carry the special responsibility of facing our insecurities and then expressing them through art. Most people will choose to stuff that stuff down and not deal with it, but I believe artists are here to help with that communication. I aim to be as clear of a channel as I can for the emotions and words that I feel - so I cry, laugh, dance, and sing pretty much daily :)

Who did you learn from to instill those values?

My mother! She has truly taught me everything I know! She's been a lifetime student of personal growth, and I am extremely grateful to have had that kind of influence.

Was it hard work to make sure that you focused on your well-being and not only your art?

Yes! And still is. This industry is super competitive and always based on the "what's next," so it's easy to overwork yourself. I have to remind myself that music is based on energy, so if my energy is off, the music isn't going to flow like I want it to, and I'd be better off getting myself in a harmonious head space before or during the creation. Patience is key!

Was there a turning point of how you decided to put yourself first?

That is something I'm also still working on. Especially as a woman, I feel this immense pressure not to displease people. When I switch into my artist zone though, whether that's a show, or a session, or a meeting, I have learned how to speak up about the things I need. The only one that it hurts if I don't is me - and I'm not about to waste my time!

How do you like to promote a healthy lifestyle?

Because my music is so high energy and has a lot of empowering messages, it actually lends itself to workout music quite well! In my "Power" music video, we shot it in a boxing ring as a "me vs me" concept. I wanted to convey that inner strength really comes from beating your own personal best instead of anyone else's. I try to promote a healthy lifestyle in my social posts as much as I can as well!

In what ways are you connecting with fans to check in on each other?

I definitely do my best to keep up with every person that messages me, and if they're going through something I offer whatever advice I can! At shows, I always say something about mental health and encourage feeling your feelings.

Who checks in on YOU when you need it most?

I have a beautiful strong tribe of women in my life! My friends and family are an insanely amazing support system and I think we've created a super safe space to be there for each other.

Changing habits can be hard. Which was the habit that you had to change and how it's changed your life now?

There was a point in my life where I really decided to take food seriously and care about what I was putting into my body. I started cooking a lot more and make sure I get my greens in one way or another every day! It was definitely a game changer when I learned what the saying "you are what you eat" really meant as it relates to how different foods make me feel!

Is there a song, book, movie, show, or anything that always gives you the motivation you need?

Anything LIZZO, always!

What is the mantra of 2022?!

"We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are."
