Get to Know MAUD!

Where are you from and how did you get started?

I’m from Bodø in Northern Norway. Since I was a little child I’ve been playing piano and singing. I started in a children’s choir before primary school, and sang in different choirs until I was about 18 years old. At high school I studied the music program, while getting educated in both classical and rhythmical piano. I started writing my own songs after high school and played in a couple of different bands. However I wanted my musical expression to be more electronic, and that’s when I decided to learn myself how to produce my own music.

How do you manage your self-care as an artist?

I try to not compare myself to others while focusing on the process itself, and not so much on the end goal. Daily routines and doing completely other things are also super important to me.

Do you have new releases or upcoming shows you would like to share?

I got some new music coming, but I can’t tell you when. I have two shows in Norway this fall, in Oslo and my hometown Bodø.

What is challenging with wellness and/ or mental health as a musical artist?

I guess it’s easy to get lost in a bad spiral if you compare yourself to others and blame yourself for not achieving more. I’ve been there and it’s not productive, it’s bad for your motivation and your ability to create and evolve. Being aware of this things are very important. If you’re working on f.i. a new song while constantly criticizing yourself, you should consider doing something completely else that day. Listen to yourself and don’t push yourself too hard if you’re having a bad day. It’s human.

Tell us about your mission as an artist!

I would say that my mission, or goal, is to create original and innovative music that touches and challenges other people. I also want to add that producing my own music has been crucial for me as an artist. Not only has it affected my ability to shape my own artistic expression, but it has made it possible for me to have complete creative control over my own work. Both artistically, but also in terms of what premises I want to base my career on.
