Be Inspired with Michelle Lee Bae!

I am from San Diego, Ca but currently live in NYC because I just graduated from Tisch School of Arts at NYU for music. I grew up in a household of musicians. My grandpa was a violinist and he was my hero. I don’t know why I decided to start singing but I fell in love with it and when I got into NYU - Tisch I really started to hone my craft. How do you manage your self-care as an artist? It’s really difficult to be honest. Moving to a city that was so far from home and my support system to pursue music was hard but being in my program I was surrounded by individuals who had or were going through the same things. I got into therapy and meditation and realized professional help was extremely helpful. It also helped in self discovery. Everyone regardless of profession has similar worries. I think talking about it really helps not just with Therapist but with fellow musicians. Mediation - I specifically do it right before I fall asleep. I struggle with anxiety and that really helps me to fall asleep. I found that focusing on breathing has really helped me... I breathe out for 10 and breathe in for 10. Do you have new releases or upcoming shows you would like to share? I just came out with a song called I take back what I said - I am in the middle of working on a music video for that! I am also opening for Anna Shoemaker on September 30th at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn, NY What is challenging with wellness and/ or mental health as a musical artist? I think it's difficult not to feel competitive or compare your career with other artists. Especially in NYC it is so close knit. And being social media seeing more streams or followers other artists may have can be discouraging some times. Tell us about your mission as an artist! I am an Asian American woman and I really want to show other Asian American artists that there is space for us in the entertainment industry. I want to inspire them. I also want to encourage Asian Americans to talk about Mental Health and share the importance of talking about mental health! What are your links and info for our readers to find you?
